A Level company - serving Manassas, VA

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown in Manassas: What to Know First

We provide independent HeatShield chimney cap and crown service in Manassas, with most cap replacements and crown repairs completed in a single visit. A standard HeatShield cap replacement in Manassas typically runs $340-$620, while full crown repair or coating lands between $480 and $1,100 depending on the damage and access. We are not affiliated with or authorized by HeatShield. We’re an independent HeatShield service provider that works on their products every week, and we quote a written price before any work starts.

This page is for Manassas homeowners who own a HeatShield chimney system and have a cap that’s rusted through, a crown that’s spalling, or water showing up where it shouldn’t. If you’re not sure what you have, that’s fine. We’ll put a camera on it and show you. Call (571) 946-2300 and we’ll schedule a written estimate.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • HeatShield CeaseFire caps with galvanized bases corroding at the flange. The CeaseFire line uses a galvanized base under a stainless hood, and in Manassas the junction between the two metals is where we see electrolysis eat through first. We see it on caps as young as four years. The fix is a full replacement with a 304 stainless base, not a patch, because the flange is structural. We quote the replacement on paper before ordering anything.
  • CeaseFire mesh screens blocking draft. HeatShield’s spark arrestor mesh is fine when it’s clean, but Manassas gets real creosote buildup from oak and hickory burning. Once the mesh is 50% clogged, draft drops measurably. On a HeatShield cap we remove and clean the screen first, then camera the flue to confirm air movement before declaring the cap the problem. Half the time a “failed” cap just needs a proper cleaning.
  • Crowns on HeatShield relined chimneys with mismatched mortar. This is one owners can’t find on HeatShield’s site. When a HeatShield liner was installed, the top plate and crown wash were sometimes rebuilt with whatever mortar the original installer had. We regularly find crowns with Type S mortar where a flexible crown sealant should be, and it spalls within two to three winters in Manassas freeze-thaw cycles. We remove the failing material, pour or trowel a proper crown with a drip edge, and coat it with a flexible crown sealer that moves with the masonry.
  • HeatShield top plate bolts loosening over time. The cast top plates use stainless bolts that, on some Manassas installs going back a decade or more, were never torqued to spec or backed off from thermal cycling. A loose top plate lets rain run down the liner and soak the flue tiles. We re-torque as part of a Level 2 inspection and replace any bolts showing thread wear. It’s a $60-$120 fix we include in the cap service rather than charging for it separately when we’re already on the roof.
  • HeatShield joint bands slipping on relined flues. On older HeatShield liner sections, the connecting bands can shift, especially when the original installer didn’t screw them at both ends. Once a band slips, the liner can telegraph movement up to the cap and crack the crown around the flue opening. We resecure the bands, then rebuild or coat the crown, because fixing one without the other puts you back on the roof in a year.

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process

Our HeatShield Chimney Cap & Crown Process
  1. 1
The written estimate call. You call (571) 946-2300, a live person answers, and we schedule a time. We text you the tech’s name and license number before they arrive.
  2. 2
The camera inspection. Every HeatShield job starts with a camera down the flue and photos of the cap, crown, and top plate from the roof. Clause 4 of the Haven Standard requires a documented photo record on every visit, and we’ve run it that way since 2009.
  3. 3
The written scope and price. Before any work starts, you get a line-item estimate on paper: what we found, what parts we’re using, what each line costs, and the warranty in writing. If you want a second opinion, bring us a competitor’s written quote and we’ll compare it honestly.
  4. 4
The parts decision. On a HeatShield cap, we use HeatShield OEM parts when the cap is warrantable and the owner wants factory spec. When the OEM part is the problem (electrolysis on galvanized bases, for example), we recommend a quality aftermarket 304 stainless cap from our standard supply line. We tell you which and why before we order.
  5. 5
The repair and the test. We replace or repair, then run a draft test and a water test on the crown. You get before-and-after photos, not a verbal summary.
  6. 6
The guarantee. Every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right. You get it in writing, stamped on the job record under the Haven Standard.

Why Manassas Homeowners Call Level Two Chimney Manassas for HeatShield Work

Most chimney companies in Manassas can put a cap on. What they can’t always do is tell you whether the cap is actually the problem. We’ve inspected more than 38,000 chimneys since 2009, and every one of them got a written price before work started and a documented photo record when it was done. That’s not a promise we make, it’s Clause 1 and Clause 4 of the Haven Standard, and it’s been our default since the day we opened.

Our techs work on HeatShield products regularly enough to know their failure patterns, and when a HeatShield part isn’t the right call, we’ll tell you and show you why on the camera. We also carry and source DuraFlex and Gelco materials through Haven’s buying network, which keeps prices honest when an aftermarket part is the better option. Corrine Halstead runs the crew, and her rule is simple: the camera already told me. I’m just writing it down for you. If the inspection turns up something that can’t wait, she calls you herself.
